Jackie Gingrich dead: Ex-wife of Newt Gingrich dies at 77

CARROLLTON, Georgia - the ex-wife of former United States House Speaker Newt Gingrich died at age 77 in Atlanta.

Representatives of Almon funeral home in Carrollton, Georgia, confirmed death of Jacqueline Gingrich. Her divorce from the Republican politician was end in 1981 and six months later, he married his second wife, Marianne. Their marriage ended in divorce in 2000.

An obituary on the web site of the funeral home says that Gingrich Jacqueline was the eldest of four children, obtained a degree in mathematics from Auburn University and taught mathematics at secondary schools in South Georgia. She says that she died on Wednesday, but the cause is not clear.

Questions about divorce and infidelity have followed the former speaker of the House, including in 2011 when he sought the Republican nomination for the Presidency.

Jacqueline Gingrich two daughters and two grandchildren survive him.
