Coffee with thematic nazi in Indonesia sparks controversy

BANDUNG, Indonesia - Indonesia-central authorities will ask the owner of a restaurant to explain their reasons for opening a themed cafeteria Nazi who has aroused controversy among locals and tourists, an official said Thursday.

Soldatenkaffee includes a red wall of memorabilia related to the Nazi, including a large flag with the swastika and a giant picture of Adolf Hitler. Their waiters dresses in the SS, or Schutzstaffel, military uniforms and can be seen posing opposite the cafeteria on your Facebook page.

The Café, located in the provincial capital of West Java's Bandung, one of the cities of tourist destination in Indonesia, has been open since April of 2011. But a recent article in a local newspaper in the English language has prompted angry responses from some foreigners and Indonesians on social networking sites.

Ayi Vivananda, Deputy Mayor of Bandung, said that a letter was sent Thursday summon Henry Mulyana cafe owner to meet with officials to discuss his reasons for the opening of the cafeteria and if its aim was to incite racial hatred.

"Those symbols are recognized internationally to represent violence and racism," said Vivananda.

Mulyana said that its objective was not race hatred. On the other hand, he said he wanted to decorate your restaurant with Nazi symbols to attract both local and foreign customers.

He also denied being pro-Nazi or support of Hitler, responsible for the deaths of 6 million Jews during the second world war.

"I am only a man of business, not a politician," said Mulyana. "I have the right to design my restaurant with something that attracts people to come. I am sure that I am not violating any law".

He said that the recent controversy has forced him to temporarily close his restaurant. He refused to say if he would consider changing the Nazi theme if authorities requested it.

"We are going to wait and see," he said. "I don't want here to workers losing their jobs".
