Carlos González hits 3 home runs, Rockies pound red 12-4 (VIDEO)

CINCINNATI - Carlos González came early in Great American Ball Park waiting to confront Johnny Cueto. He got a little extra practice on his swing, trying to make it more quickly for one of the toughest pitchers in the major leagues.

The Rockies homers leader was prepared to face the best. On the other hand, got a newbie making their first opening in the big leagues and it was just overwhelming him.

Gonzalez had tied his career with three home runs, two of them Pedro Villarreal - and Troy Tulowitzki was 5 for 5 with a pair of home runs on Wednesday night, sending Colorado to a victory by 12-4 over the Cincinnati Reds.

'' Today showed up early, tried to work on my hands, feeling good at the plate,"said Gonzalez, who has 17 homers. "This is a good place to hit."

The Rockies don't hit six home runs in a game, since they had that many against the Marlins on July 04, 2008, according to STATS LLC.

"When we get some guys hitting in our lineup at the same time, it is a dangerous line," said Walt Weiss. "Two very good players in the middle of our line were swinging the bat well tonight."

Gonzalez got the waste of Colorado with a single shot and a homer of three racing Villarreal (0-1), who was abused by one of the major crimes of the NL in his first start in the major leagues. The right-hander was called Triple-a the morning because Cueto had persistent problems with a muscle in the back of his throwing shoulder.

Gonzalez was mentally prepared to face Cueto, who is 4 for 10 with a homer. On the other hand, he obtained a young pitcher trying to launch strikes.

"It's a strange feeling," said Gonzalez. "Sometimes you like against a guy who has seen several times instead of a guy you've never seen before. Tonight we saw a lot of pitches in the strike zone,".

Tulowitzki tied his career with five hits, including a homer for two runs and a single shot. Todd Helton also homered as the Rockies piled up in a season-high 20 hits, most allowed by Cincinnati since 2009. The reds arrived with the second best won average in NL.

"The boy had a rough night," said Dusty Baker. "He was leaving balls up in the zone and over the heart of the plate. You do that and you are in trouble".

Jon Garland (4-6) gave four runs - all in the first - and lasted six innings.

The Rockies took the last two games of their series, ending a streak of six consecutive defeats against Cincinnati. Colorado is 3-6 against the reds in the last two seasons.

"To beat those guys is great, two out of three" Helton said. "That's a good team over there."

The reds put Cueto in the list of disabled people in 15 days before the match, the second time this season that their top Starter has been sidelined by a muscle stretched in the back of his shoulder. Top Cincinnati Starter went out from April 15 to May 19 with injury.

Villarreal was promoted instead of the left-handed Tony Cingrani because it was his turn to start in triple-uno Louisville. Weiss not changing its alignment to right handed Villarreal, which lasted only 3 2-3 innings and allowed 10 hits and six runs.

Gonzalez hit his homer in the first. Tulowitzki had a two-run shot in the third, his second Homer in two games. He also had a two-run homer in the eighth entry Tuesday for a 5-4 victory.

Gonzalez's Homer three runs in the fourth, one that was an estimated 476 feet, gave him 10 multihomer games in his career, two this season. He added a two-run shot in the eighth inning of Manny Parra. He also hit three in a game against Houston on May 30 last season.

Garland also had a tough time in the first inning, when Xavier Paul hit me a shot of three runs for a 4-1 lead. Garland is one of the best in the NL to get ground balls. After Paul Homer, retired 13 of the following 17 batters in paper or strikeouts.

Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips lost his fourth straight game with a bruised left forearm, which was hit by a pitch. Waiting for a series of weekend against the first-place St. Louis.

Notes: An MRI at the start of Rockies Tyler Chatwood found nothing more than inflammation in your triceps. It expects to lose a start. Chatwood had to leave his start Monday in Cincinnati during the fifth inning because of pain in the triceps. ... Rockies CF Dexter Fowler was sick and out of alignment. ... Chris Heisey's Red plans to begin a rehabilitation assignment Friday to triple-uno Louisville. Heisey has been on the disabled list since April 29 with a pulled right hamstring. ... Bengals players took batting practice before the game. It holds under supervision of the workouts this week.
