When it comes to cops and buskers, this isn't the type of scene we're used to seeing here in the U.S.

Police officer Ian Northcott from Birmingham, England, delighted onlookers by grabbing a guitar and joining a pair of street performances for some off-the-cuff Oasis covers -- and his impromtu rock show has gone viral.

"It was such a lovely day, everyone seemed happy, it just felt such a natural thing to do," Northcott told SWNS. "We are always looking for ways to break down barriers between the police and the public and this was one of them."

YouTube user Ben Chambers caught Northcott's rendition of 'Wonderwall' on film and uploaded it to his account on June 1. It's since been viewed more than 100,000 times.

Besides promoting a positive police-community relationship, the video has helped Northcott further his charity efforts for the homeless. A few years ago, he launched Socks and Chocs, an initiative that provides the homeless with a few basic comforts during the Christmas season.

Last year, Northcott asked young musicians on YouTube to post covers of his own song, 'Pleasures,' to increase the effort's online visibility.

Northcott's viral performance may go a long way towards helping Socks and Chocs reach its goal of distributing 16,000 pairs of socks to the needy this year.

Find out how you can contribute to the cause on the Socks and Chocs Facebook page.
